How each issue comes together.
We follow labels, artists and record shops, and go looking for what their mailing lists miss.
Every issue is chosen and checked by hand. A record only goes in if it's on vinyl, you can order it, there's a link to buy, and it's worth your time.
One email, every week.

Limited pressings often sell out before most people hear about them, then reappear on resale sites for several times the price. Our Vinyl Report found an average 473% markup on sought-after shoegaze records. Surface Noise is there so you hear about the next one while it's still at retail price.
The week's standout records, with the artist, label, release date, format, colour, edition, a short note on why each is worth a look, and a link to buy. Then a list of everything else worth knowing about. Read past issues of the vinyl newsletter.
Shoegaze, post-rock, dream pop, indie, post-punk, ambient and the scenes around them, plus the occasional bigger record that fans of those scenes tend to love anyway.

You could, but that means dozens of mailing lists and feeds, and things still slip through. Surface Noise puts them in one email. Discogs is mostly a marketplace for records that have already sold; we're about getting them new, before that happens. Every method, compared.
It's the only thing we ask for. We use it to send the newsletter and never pass it on. Privacy.
